London, August 2011 – Europcar, the leader in car hire services in Europe, is celebrating winning the Scheme Partner award at the sixth annual Motability Supplier Awards. The award win builds on Europcar’s commended status last year, and demonstrates Europcar’s commitment to providing industry leading support for Motability Car Scheme customers. The awards are organised by Motability Operations, the business behind the Motability car, powered wheelchair and scooter schemes for disabled people.

Europcar was highlighted by Motability Operations as one of the businesses supporting the service provided to over half a million Motability customers in the UK. With award wins and commendations ranging from those for individual car dealers and car manufacturers, to specialist businesses that convert cars to make them wheelchair accessible, the awards celebrate the diversity of the Motability car, powered wheelchair and scooter schemes.

Europcar was particularly highlighted by the judges for providing Motability Car Scheme customers with industry-leading levels of out of hours support, and a renewed focus on customer satisfaction. The judges praised Europcar’s approach in meeting the customer needs of those with very specific requirements, including examples of personnel delivering the most suitable car to the opposite end of the country in order to ensure a customer has continuous mobility.  The partnership approach of Europcar has protected Motability Operations from technology changes, and ensured that complaints are at an absolute minimum.

On receiving the Scheme Partner award, Ken McCall, Managing Director, Europcar Group UK said:  “To win a Motability Supplier Award is simply fantastic, particularly against the stiff competition for which the awards are renowned. This recognition comes on the back of the work we have done to ensure we are constantly engaging in a dialogue with our customers to identify and fulfil their needs – as was acknowledged by the Awards judges. We aim to continue building on this win to sustain our strong partnership with Motability in years to come.”

Motability Operations manages the Motability Scheme for disabled people and their families. Anyone who receives the Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance or the War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement can exchange this monthly payment for a brand new car, powered wheelchair or scooter through Motability.   Europcar provides a crucial component in this service, providing hire cars for Motability users who need a replacement vehicle when their own car is out of action or when they are awaiting delivery of a new vehicle.

Mike Betts, chief executive, Motability Operations, commented, “Many congratulations to Europcar. The Motability Scheme delivers a service that enhances the lives and opportunities for disabled people and their families. The Supplier Awards recognises the performance and consistent excellence across the different types of businesses and people who deliver that service to our customers. Ranging from those involved in face-to-face customer service, to those who deliver the behind the scenes logistics of the scheme, all winners and commended businesses and individuals are united by their high standards.”

As well as the award for Scheme Partner, there were a further 13 awards presented at the Awards ceremony hosted by broadcaster Huw Edwards. In addition to one winner in each category, there were also commended businesses and individuals.
