Tour of Thrones: Discover the real Westeros in Northern Ireland

We are now just a matter of weeks away from the highly anticipated fifth season of the smash hit TV drama Game of Thrones, with tens of millions of avid fans desperate to re-acquaint themselves with Westeros following last year’s dramatic Season 4 finale.

In addition to its captivating storylines and intriguing characters, the show has garnered plenty of attention for its stunning locations. Countries such as Malta, Croatia, Iceland, Spain, Scotland and the US have all doubled up as the fictional Westeros and Essos continents, but the majority of the show’s interior scenes – and several of its most memorable exterior shots – are filmed in Northern Ireland.

The capital city of Belfast is home to the Titanic Studios, where most of the show’s eye-catching sets can be found. The studio itself isn’t open to the public; however, some of the most breath-taking outdoor filming locations are located within a few hours of the city.
